 Alan J. Kasper is a senior partner in the international IP law firm of Sughrue Mion, PLLC. Alan’s practice focuses on patent matters and consists primarily of prosecution, litigation, licensing, opinions (including independent evaluator for standards groups), and counseling on patent strategies for a variety of clients in the advanced electrical, optical, semiconductor, computer-based, and mechanical technologies. 

Alan graduated from the State University of New York with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and obtained a J.D. at the Georgetown University Law Center.

Alan is active in several professional associations, including the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI), the American Bar Association, the Intellectual Property Owners Association, the Licensing Executives Society, The Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI), and AIPLA.

For AIPLA he served as President in 2010 and as a member of the Board of Directors for nine years. Thereafter he served as Chair of the AIPLA Special Task Force on AIA Rulemaking, a 25-member committee of experts that provided detailed comments to the USPTO on the AIA Rules pre- and post-publication. He was President of the Global Network of National IP Practitioner Associations and Chair of the U.S. Bar/SIPO Liaison Council. He has written and given presentations worldwide on IP-related topics, many of them involving international issues and the AIA.

He is co-author of the AIPLA/Bloomberg Law treatises Patents After the AIA: Evolving Law & Practice and Prior Art After the AIA: A Practical Guide.
