Darren J. Hunter is a Founding Partner of Hunter Masalski LLC.  Mr. Hunter represents a wide variety of companies in all aspects of environmental, health and safety law, with an emphasis on OSHA, PHMSA, and EPA compliance and defense. Mr. Hunter also has a litigation practice focusing on energy-related issues.  In over 30 years of practice, Mr. Hunter has represented multiple energy and manufacturing companies in matters involving complex technical and legal issues.

Mr. Hunter began his legal career as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Thomas J. Moran, Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court.  Prior to launching his own firm, he was a Partner at Rooney Rippie & Ratnaswamy LLP, Counsel at Dewey & LeBouef, and Partner at McGuireWoods.  Mr. Hunter received his J.D., with High Honors, from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he was a member of the Environmental and Energy Law Society.  For two semesters during law school, Mr. Hunter served as a judicial extern for Senior Judge Abraham Lincoln Marovitz of the District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.  He received his B.S. in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is admitted to practice in Illinois.

Mr. Hunter is the author of Bloomberg BNA Corporate Practice Portfolio Series No. 9-5th, Practice under the Occupational Safety and Health Act.  This portfolio volume analyzes the procedures by which Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards are set, variances are obtained, and enforcement takes place. Emphasis in this portfolio is placed upon methods available for avoiding violations, protecting management's interests during OSHA inspections, responding to citations, and litigating before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. In addition, there are discussions of employee rights and private rights of action under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.
